Welcome to the Joan Lafayette Memorial Fund Page.
About the Fund
The Joan L. Lafayette Memorial Fund was established to honor our late Co-Founder and Vice-President. Ms. Lafayette passed away on February 4, 2021, of natural causes. Her last act of kindness was to buy groceries for our sister company, Broncos Kitchen, to feed food-insecure Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, and Kalamazoo Valley Community College students. She died hours later.
The Fund will be used to continue her legacy by purchasing and operating a food truck in her honor. The vehicle will travel throughout Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, Michigan, to feed the homeless, low-income individuals and families, disabled citizens, veterans, and college students.
Ms. Lafayette worked for 29 years as a Food and Nutrition Service Supervisor at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Battle Creek before retiring in 2009. She served on numerous boards and committees in the Cereal City where Ms. Lafayette received multiple awards and citations for her community service.
Joan was a member of the Eastern Star and proudly served as the Daughter Ruler of Golden Star Temple #145 for many years.
Ms. Lafayette is the mother of five children, 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Pastor William Stein, her youngest son, is the co-founder and chairman of God's Kitchen of Michigan.
Thank you in advance for supporting the Joan L. Lafayette Memorial Fund. God bless you.
